SUMMARY:Regenerative medicine in the UK health system: challenges\, prospects and readiness
DESCRIPTION:This conference reports on the findings of a major three-year ESRC research project on regenerative medicine. It is the first of its kind in providing a social science perspective on the development\, current situation and likely future of the field within the wider NHS context.\nThe conference will be of value to different audiences interested in a detailed\, ground-breaking analysis of the area: those working in innovation policy\, commissioning\, and technology evaluation in the health service\, academic social scientists exploring the dynamics of emergent biomedical sciences\, clinicians and biomedical scientists\, healthcare professionals\, patient groups\, regulatory experts\, and those in Parliament with responsibility for policy relating to health\, science and technology. As such\, the meeting provides an excellent opportunity to meet different actors in the field\, and create new links for future engagement. The meeting will be strongly interactive\, structured around panels\, open discussion and poster presentations.\nThe findings will contribute to policy and national thinking. The meeting\, to be chaired by Professor Andrew Webster (PI) brings together the research team from York\, Birmingham\, Edinburgh and Sussex\, as well as expert practitioners from the project’s Advisory Group and various stakeholders who have played a vital role in ensuring the research addressed current issues of concern\, notably how to translate this emergent field into the clinic.\nThe conference will provide an opportunity to discuss stakeholders’ views in particular on health service readiness – or ‘institutional readiness’ – for regenerative medicine.\nThe conference speakers are drawn from the project team and the Advisory Group as well as guest speakers from the UK\, US and Europe.\nA full conference programme will be available shortly.\nLunch plus a closing wine reception will be provided for all registered delegates. \nRegistration: There is no fee for the conference\, but all delegates will need to register in advance.\nRegistration is open until March 31 and there are limited places. \nRegister your intention. \nFurther information about the project.
